Back in April last year representatives of the 'Group of Twenty' that are all members of the Grow Grenfell Group attended a meeting with the General Manager and Mayor of Weddin Shire Council to discuss the Grenfell Cultural Centre proposal following the presentation of the concept to Council at the Ordinary Council Meeting of 19 December 2024.
It was agreed at the meeting in April that arrangements would subsequently be made for the Cultural Centre concept to be further reviewed and developed by Council and Councillors.
Noreen Vu the General Manager of Weddin Shire Council subsequently tendered her resignation and the 'Group of Twenty'/Grow Grenfell Group were advised by Council that further review of the Grenfell Cultural Centre would be placed on hold pending the appointment of a new General Manager.
The appointment of a new General Manager for Weddin Shire Council has taken some time with the position to be now filled by Matthew Sykes who will step into the role this month (Jan '26) from his previous position at Nambucca Shire Council.
Council advised late last year that the Grenfell Cultural Centre concept has been included in the incoming General Manager's Briefing Pack for his consideration and review.
The 'Group of Twenty' looks forward to having further talks with the new General Manager and Council over the coming months. The Grenfell Cultural Centre is an exciting concept that will provide significant benefits for the wider Grenfell and Weddin Shire community.

The Grenfell Cultural Centre is a bold community initiative led by twenty local residents who have funded detailed architectural plans and visual renders for a landmark cultural facility in Grenfell, NSW. Designed as a meeting place for all ages, the centre will bring together three of the town’s key institutions: the Grenfell Museum, Grenfell Art Gallery, and Grenfell Visitor Information Centre. Each will gain significantly more space and improved facilities by being housed together.

Alongside these core facilities, the Grenfell Cultural Centre will include a new Youth Centre that also functions as a Town Hall and multipurpose venue for events, indoor sport, and community use. It will also feature a dedicated Dreamtime Exhibition celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture, as well as a café with indoor and outdoor seating. The centre’s flexible design will allow it to host everything from concerts to local exhibitions, all in climate-controlled comfort.
